Happy Birthday, Dad!

So here it is…the last 90 or so days…the last 13 or so weeks…the final third of the pregnancy! We get to meet our baby in just 3 short, short months! I get the question now a lot…”So, are you ready?” The answer is yes: I can’t wait to meet our baby…I can’t wait to have my very own body back…I can’t wait for the back and joint pain to go away…I can’t wait to see how Ben will react to having a new baby in the house all the time! The answer is also no: We’re not ready yet…It’s way too quick…Labor, again…I want to spend some more quality time alone with Ben first…We want to move (yes, we are crazy!)…Where have the last nine months gone already??? Typical!

Anyway, here’s what’s going on with Samuel this week (#26): The baby may weigh two pounds or more now and is busy growing a bigger brain! The lungs are beginning to make surfactant, which keep the lung tissues from sticking to each other and help protect against infection once the baby is born.

• The baby is beginning to blink and open his eyes.
• Eyelashes are beginning to grow.
• Hair is continuing to grow on his head.
• To support his growing body, the baby’s spine is getting stronger and more flexible.
• Although he hasn’t put on much fat, the baby is beginning to look a little plumper.
