What has gotten into me???

This week is #32. I’m not quite sure what has happened, but I’ve gotten a little burst of energy and this weekend was “Spring Cleaning Weekend” for my stuff. I went through each drawer in our room and got rid of all the clothes that I haven’t worn in a long time (5+ bags going to Goodwill). I also changed over my winter clothes to summer clothes. I hadn’t really done this yet because I’ve mainly been wearing my maternity stuff (out of baskets…but not anymore!) and I’ll be needing these clothes pretty soon again. I also cleaned out my closet…you can see the floor for the first time in probably 4 years and there is actually ROOM on my racks for more clothes…humm…tempting! :)

Anyway, in the process of preparing for Sam’s arrival, we bought a new crib. Even though we chose a rather small crib, it still was not going to fit well in our room…so we moved today (into another room, that is…not another house…yet) with the help of my Mom & Dad. We switched rooms with our spare bedroom (all except the closets…those will stay the same because the spare room doesn’t really have much closet space). I suppose this move is better in the long run anyway! The spare bedroom is the coolest of the upstairs rooms (without the use of a portable air conditioner, that is). It also has a little more room too (not much though!). Anywho, it looks really nice and tonight when I get up in the middle of the night to pee, I’m going to pray to God that I don’t run into a wall or something…I generally don’t wake up all the way!

In addition to cleaning out my stuff and switching rooms, I was also able to get all of Sam’s clothes, blankets and burp cloths washed, folded and put away. I have a make-shift changing table set up in there made out of an antique dry sink that came from Mom & Dad (and I can’t remember where before that). Anyhow, it’s old, but it will work for now (at least until the clothes get bigger)!

And the Week #32 update (BTW…there are only 8 more weeks left if I go to my due date!): The baby’s appearance is changing rapidly during this week. Most of the wrinkles are disappearing from the baby’s face, and there may be a lot of hair on his head (we’ll see). The baby is now about four pounds (yeah, right) and about 15.5 – 16 inches long. The baby should now be head down (he’s not). A baby born now would have an excellent chance of survival, with the right care.
The baby:

  • Will have completely formed fingernails and toenails.
  • Will be able to turn his head from side to side.
  • Has organs that continue to mature.
  • Has sucking muscles that have matured, and will enable him to latch on and breastfeed once he arrives. (A good sucking pattern is also a sign of good brain and muscle development.)
  • Will begin dreaming during sleep toward the end of the eighth month, according to brain scans. Due to his impressive brain development, his sleep will now include both REM and non-REM sleep stages. (REM stands for “rapid eye movement,” the dreaming stage of sleep.)
